Legal Assistant – Tax Controversy

JOB SUMMARY

The Legal Assistant must have five (5) years of experience in the litigation. The successful candidate will have familiarity with IRS and Arizona Department of Revenue practices and procedures, possess strong organizational skills, excellent client service skills, and the ability to communicate with courts, attorneys, and tax authorities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Associates degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Five (5) years’ legal experience
  • Commercial litigation experience preferred
  • Or, any equivalent combination of education and experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand complex business-related legal documents and supports document management process.
  • Prepare and process legal documents.
  • Electronically file pleadings and other documents in Federal and local courts, including Tax Court.
  • File and maintain powers of attorney with the IRS and ADOR.
  • Perform day to day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork. 
  • Generate various reports for audits and/or internal meetings.
  • Maintain project files and keep all matters updated and current.
  • Perform support activities to assist attorneys.
  • Use PowerPoint, MS Word, Excel, and other programs in preparation of correspondence, documents and/or presentations; efficiently creates charts, graphs, tables, and text slides; responsible for formatting consistency and accuracy on time-sensitive, high-profile documents.
  • Enter time into PCLaw and assist in the billing process
  • Maintain filing systems; opens files, classifies, sorts, and files correspondence, records, media clips and other documents.
