Williams, an accomplished mediator, recently attended Mediator Boot Camp at the internationally acclaimed Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University School of Law. Ms. Williams honed her mediation skills through discussions of best practices, role playing, and participation in seminars on cutting-edge mediation tools that are based on real world experiences.
“One of the difficult parts of a mediation is handling the emotions and behaviors of the parties,” said Ms. Williams. “At the end of the day, my role as a mediator is to help the disputing parties focus on the issues that will make resolution happen and deal with the landmines that could derail the process. Although there is no guarantee that mediation will be successful, the training I received gave me additional tools and techniques to handle the unexpected mischief of conflict.”
